Billy Goodman: NEWS

October 13, 2013

I have really hit the ground running here in Berlin. I've been here less than six weeks and it feels more like six months. My body is going through a transformation from carrying guitars and amplifiers up the endless amount of staircases and subways throughout the city. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger so I'm keeping a positive attitude and spending more time on the yoga mat. There are plenty of places to give a show and I have done quite a few. Tonight will start a Sunday night series at a great coffeehouse in the middle of town.

I have gotten a warm reception everywhere I've played so far and people have been buying CD's so I'm very grateful about that.
Autumn is in the air, the town is a sea of bustling activity and I'm changing strings, trying to keep up.

You may be high, you may be low
You may be rich, you may be poor
But when the Lord gets ready
You got to move

- Mississippi Fred McDowell

My grandmother used to say that a change is as good as a rest so I feel confident that the future looks bright ahead. Sabine put her house up on the market and is looking for something smaller and easier to maintain. She works hard as a sought out freelance translator and loves to ride her horse. I'm going to rent a large furnished apartment in Charlottenberg, Berlin for a while. As the saying goes, it was an offer I couldn't refuse. I've always been hugely interested in this historic city and I want to see if I can't make a small splash in it's artistic community. As long as I can get back and forth from Berlin to Heidelberg quickly and easily, I feel it's a good time to go and have a look. I already have a Berlin show booked on September 7th and there should be considerably more to come.

thank you .. - July 21, 2013

I had a great time playing at Berlin Guitars last week. I thank leonard Lott for inviting me, my brother Jon for coming all the way to Berlin to catch the show and John Vaughn for being the special guest.

berlin concert .. - July 13, 2013

I'm very happy to be asked to play for Berlin Guitars again next Wednesday, July 17th. It's a unique guitar store owned by Leonard Lott, a fellow ex-pat who has seen it all and lived to tell the tale. I'm opening for a very talented young lady from South Africa named Alice Phoebe Lou. The show kicks off at 8pm. Click on the link for more about Alice and Berlin Guitars.

independence day ... - July 4, 2013

It's the 4th of July again. Just like in the song :-)
I'm back in Berlin and really enjoying it. I just had some good Indian food at a cool little neighborhood restaurant.
I sat outside while the church bells were ringing. Berlin is cool. My little brother Jon arrives tomorrow from New York.
He'll stay two weeks. We're going to have a blast !

sunday .. - June 23, 2013

Sunday in Heidelberg. Heading over to play at Joe Lewis's service for the homeless.

heat wave ... - June 20, 2013

Back in Heidelberg, we just suffered through 3 days of 100 degree weather and not an air conditioner in sight. It was brutal but we're back on track now.

berlin on a bicycle .. - June 11, 2013

Seven hours a day on the bike. I'm becoming quite familiar with this town of Berlin. It is a fascinating city.

friday in berlin .. - June 7, 2013

It was a fantastic day here in Berlin. I spent several hours at Mauerpark. The name translates to "Wall Park", referring to its status as a former part of the Berlin Wall and its Death Strip. The park is located at the border of Prenzlauer Berg and Gesundbrunnen district of former West Berlin.

prison .. - May 31, 2013

I played for the inmates at the Mannheim prison yesterday. They appreciate that I come down and play for them and it's a good feeling when I get to walk out a free man.

rainy daze - May 27, 2013

This rainy month of May has really tried all of our patience but not to worry, summer will prevail and we'll be riding our bikes down by the river before you know it.
I took advantage of the weather and have been recording and will continue today. I'm also planning a trip to Berlin which is exciting.

may ... - April 30, 2013

The month of May begins tomorrow and we are loving that here in Germany. I played a good show at the Haus Cajeth Museum in Heidelberg last week. Three long sets for three entirely different audiences without repeating any songs. That was interesting. Must have been 40 songs. I'm excited to see what the spring and summer have in store for us and keeping it grateful !

black forest .. - April 10, 2013

I had a great gig last Saturday night in the Black Forest. It was sold out and the people were most generous, buying lots of CD's.
It's getting warmer here in Heidelberg. We should be experiencing spring in all its glory by the weekend. There's going to be some happy Germans running around when that finally happens. It was the winter that wouldn't end.

heidelberg .. - March 27, 2013

I'm back in chilly Germany a few weeks now. We're all waiting for the long winter to end. I'll be taking my guitar and going to Mannheim tomorrow with a friend to play for the inmates in the prison there. It's always a good feeling when you get to walk out. There's plenty to be grateful for.

Big Red Barn - March 3, 2013

I just uploaded my full album "Big Red Barn" on youtube.
It was recorded with Steve and John Kimock at Steve's studio in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
That's full album number 11.

Valentines Day .. - February 14, 2013

It's hot and humid here in Miami Beach this Valentines Day morning. I'm going over a few classics from Gordon Lightfoot and Tom Paxton. I've added the links below. I guess I'm in a 1966 mood again. Man, that was a great year for music. I was 12 and practicing hard every day after school and on the weekends with my buddies. Im still at it.

brothers .. - February 10, 2013

Spent an hour on the phone with my brother Frank this morning. It's amazing all the things we've been through and by grace are still going strong. Don't know what I'd do without my brothers.

life is a beach ... - January 27, 2013

Sun, ocean breeze, walks on the beach. God, I feel guilty.

miami .. - January 16, 2013

I escaped snowy Germany yesterday and caught the sunrise this morning overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. There's a warm breeze blowing as I sit shirtless on the balcony. Wow !

"heidelberg waltz" - January 10, 2013

I uploaded an original waltz on youtube that my friend Uli Schuenemann played accordion on. My friend Elvira Roth took the photos and made the slideshow. We had fun doing it. We love Heidelberg. It's very beautiful here.
